Dry Erase Ramekins

We had friends over for dinner last night.  I was serving different sauces to go with the pork tenderloin but I didn't want to put the bottles on the table.  I poured the sauces into ramekins... hmmm, no one would know which was which.  I thought about making little cards to put in front of them, but this is a casual dinner and I'd feel like a total dork doing that.  So I got out my dry erase marker...

Why didn't I think of this like 10 years ago???  I was mostly inspired by my dry erase lamp (at least it gave me the guts to write on one of my dishes)

After dinner was over, it washed right off!  I seriously could not wait to share this idea; sometimes it's the simplest things...

And one more thing before I go.  I know I've mentioned before that I live in a small house.  For the first few  years we lived here I hardly ever had people over.  I hated the thought of people not being comfortable because we'd have to all cram into our little kitchen (we don't have a dining room).  I was so wrong.  If you've ever felt the same way, or you've found that you're "too busy" to keep up with friends, you need to read this post by Christina Britt Lewis of the Redesign Company.  It changed the way I look at my life.  You really should read it... it will take less than a minute.

This group of friends has a standing dinner once a week at rotating houses.  We promised we wouldn't cook to impress one another and we wouldn't yell at our families to clean up before the guests arrive.  It is beautiful on so many levels... I can only encourage you to do something like this with your friends.  We even named the group:  the POD (which stands for "pants optional dinner" because my daughter has this uncanny habit of taking her pants off and running around in her diaper at some point throughout the night).  It is what it is.  And we love it just the way it is.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
Blessings,
Jamie

  12. That's a fantastic idea. Did you have problems with it smearing if people touched it? Or did people leave them alone?

  15. I have some ramekins {which I hardly ever use} & I'm going to file this idea away for future use. It's so clever & I never would have thought of it on my own! Some people are so smart!

  16. Brilliant! I'm going to try on wine glasses too at our next party. Everyone can write their names on the bottom piece (so it doesn't get wiped off and/or all over your hands when you grab the glass) ...
