American Flag Wreath, Sort Of

I love yarny wreaths!  They are a cheap and quick way to dress up your door

I originally thought I'd do one gigantic star, but it looked too much like the Texas flag

Or maybe the Puerto Rican flag

I have friends who are Puerto Rican and friends who are Texan, but I'm not looking to celebrate either of their native locales this summer.  I added a couple additional stars to look a little more like the US flag.

I began with a straw wreath

*Friends, do not unwrap the plastic from the wreath.  It is a lot of time and effort and you'll just get straw everywhere.  I have a loved one (whom shall remain nameless) that tried to unwrap the plastic from her straw wreath and she was frustrated before the project even really began.

You can do this with any kind of yarn, but I used worsted weight yarn because that is what I had on hand

If you ball your yarn, the wrapping process is soooo much easier.  I love having balled yarn around.  I just think it's pretty.  And convenient.

Here it is almost done.  If you have any stray pieces of yarn hanging out, you can just glue them down in the back of the wreath

I wanted my stars to be raised a little, so I cut an end off a match box and glued it to the back of a star before gluing it down

I did the same with the piece of cardboard that goes around an artist's eraser so that the stars were at varying heights

Added some hot glue

And ended up with this

All done!
