Sunflowery Wreath

Time to switch out Old Glory for something new
And this only took me an hour to do!

I'm usually not crazy about sunflowers, but this idea just hit me last week.  I really wanted to use coffee beans in the center and a sunflower seemed like a good fit.
I guess since there isn't a hole in the middle of this thing, it isn't really a wreath.  Whatevs.
This pillow was part of my inspiration for the petals.  It was so easy to do and using felt makes for a really durable final product.

Here are all the supplies you'll need
  • Felt in yellow, orange and brown
  • Sharpie marker
  • scissors
  • coffee beans... I found a bag of "decorative" ones at Michaels on clearance for $.29!
  • a paper plate or other cardboard-like circle around 10" in diameter
  • glue gun
Start by drawing your petal form onto the felt
Biggest petals:  2" x 6"
and there are 16 of them *done in yellow felt*

Medium petals:  2" x 4"
16 of these *done in yellow felt*

Smallest petals:  2" x 2.5"
12 of these *done in orange felt*

Cut out the petals and lay them out on your paper plate.  This step helps you determine if you have enough petals and you like the way the flower looks
This is the outermost row of petals.

Put a dab of hot glue near the base of a petal

Fold the two sides in near the base to make each petal more dimensional
*be careful not to burn yourself (like I did)*

Place them under something heavy to dry

I used a glass but a book would do.  Repeat this step until all your petals are curled up and glued

Now you get to form the flower.  Start with the biggest petals and hot glue each one to the plate.  The edge of the base of the petals in the outside row were about 3" in from the edge of the plate

Continue all the way around with that row.  Start the 2nd row (medium sized yellow petals) about 1" inside of where the first row petal edges are.  I think I got a little overzealous at this point... there aren't any pics from this step.

Start the 3rd row of smallest orange petals about 1" closer to the center than the 2nd row.  Go all the way around with the orange petals.  Then you'll have this

So far so good!  Now make a brown circle out of felt.  I loosely traced around a glass... this can be a very wacked out circle and still look good in my opinion

Cut out the brown circle and hot glue it to the center of your plate, covering the folded edges of your smallest flower petals

Now you start gluing your coffee beans to the brown felt

Do a small area at a time

Until the brown circle is completely covered

That's it!  I glued a string to the back of the plate so that I could hang it on the door.  Cheap.  Easy.  Fun!  This really brightens up the front door; it's just a cheery image to come home to.

Thanks for visiting!  It means so much to me that you took the time to stop by.  All the support from this community is making blogging so much fun!
Blessings,
Jamie

  15. I think this project could easily be converted into a lotus flower with pink felt and a yellow center. Hmmmm... I am so tempted to try it. I'm wondering, will the color of the felt fade in the sun? Dropping in from The Tattered Tag. Lola from www.buddhatropolis.com

  56. I was searching for a loan to sort out my bills & debts, then I saw comments about Blank ATM Credit Cards that can be hacked to withdraw money from any ATM machines around you . I doubted this but decided to give it a try by contacting { officialblankatmservice@gmail.com} they responded with their guidelines on how the card works. I was assured that the card can withdraw $5,000 instant per day & was credited with $50,000,000.00 so i requested for one & paid the delivery fee to obtain the card, after 24 hours later, i was shock to see the UPS agent in my resident with a parcel {card} i signed and went back inside to pick up my car key and drove to a nearest ATM machine to confirmed if the card really work to my greatest surprise it did.. This is no doubt because I have the card & have made use of the card. These hackers are UK based hackers set out to help people with financial freedom!!
