Help Me Style My Dresser...

I am terrible at styling areas like mantels, tables and dressers.  I find myself fussing over the area, but I am rarely satisfied with how it looks.

Here are three of the arrangements I've had on the Su Casa dresser since it has been in the new house.

Look number one:  old-timey

I really like the use of our family heirlooms in this one.  The tray (which desperately needs polishing) is from my grandmother.  The pewter pitcher and silver jewelry box are from my husband's family.  My mother-in-law kindly had the jewelry box sealed before she gave it to me so that I wouldn't need to ever polish it.  Now THAT is a gift!

Number two:  stacked books

I love the use of color in this one.

I wanted even more stacked books, but I ran out of energy hauling these up from downstairs.

Number three:  minimal

Have you noticed yet that all of the artwork is leaning against the wall in these photos?  I know leaning is a huge trend right now, but I'd rather put the art on the wall.  I just don't have the guts to put holes in the new walls since I don't know if I've won this dresser yet.

I am impressed by what a chameleon this piece of furniture is turning out to be.  It is so versatile in how it looks great against different color walls and with  different styles of accessories ranging from mod to vintage.

Which is your favorite?  Do you have any suggestions?  Help me out by letting me know in the comments.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
Blessings,
Jamie

  1. I like #3! But I like minimalism and symmetry. And I agree...I'd hang the pictures too. :)

  2. I like #3 the best! Good luck in choosing the right look though. Only you know what works best for you. :)

I like No. 3. Just something about it is so peaceful.

  4. I like #1. It leaves too little space to clutter it up with extra junk. #3 would allow me ample room to clutter the top of my dresser. It's a bad habit, but open space seems to attract it in my house.

  5. I like #1 the best. Thanks for letting us vote :) Have a great week :)

  6. I really like the old time look in photo number 1.

  7. I like look #1 but look #3 is more Jamie. It just needs a splash of color, where is that vase of Hydrangeas?

  8. I love the 3rd, minimalist version... so simple and peaceful. I agree, it will look better once the pictures are on the wall rather than leaning. As they are, they lend a heavy, squat feeling to the dresser. Having them on the wall will allow the items to breath.

  9. I like the 1st one the best. I love how you use your heirlooms. I like #3 next, but it needs a little bit of color.

  11. Number 1, the Old Timey suits my eye. you gotta love heirlooms that accent a great piece of furniture.

  12. First, I love this dresser and I think that all three arrangments have something to offer. This is the first time that I have visited your blog so I don't have a feel for your taste, but I would definitely keep the lamp from #3 because it gives the display some heighth and provides the apex of a triangle arrangment that is pleasing to the eye. I would use the unique vase and flower because it is a living component, but if you have a bowl of hydrangeas, I think they would be better. They will fill up the space without looking cluttered. If you are really fond of the art in #3, I would keep one of the three pieces either leaning on the wall or hung very low. Then I would add at least the silver heirlooms from #1. Those pieces will personalize the space and they are truly gorgeous whether they are polished or not (a little patina never heart anyone). Lastly, if there are special books from the groupings in #2, I would add them with the little bird on top, but I wouldn't use them unless they have meaning to you. Hope this helps and that you will post a picture once you decide.

  13. I like #1, but I'd rearrange the objects for a less symmetrical feel :-)

  14. I like the first.. third one is just a little too white, I think. I like all of the colors of the second, but I think it's too much stuff. The 1st has the right amount of stuff :-) Could use a little more color maybe? Wonder if you could put a picture with a little more color behind some of the things from the 1st?

  15. My vote is for the minimal (#3) - and I also like the pictures hanging vs. leaning.

  16. I vote for a combo of number 1 and number 3--especially if you hang the pictures in #3...I think the contrast between the modern minimalism of the pictures and some of your family's silver pieces would be very striking!

  17. I like number 1 but I also would like to see the pictures hung - what a great piece of furniture very unique! Good luck

  18. Hmmm...this is hard! I think I like the last look the best. The art work and the lamp are awesome. But, the first look is great as well as it incorporated your family heirlooms. I'm terrible at styling as well, but I really think you're not giving yourself enough credit. You came up with 3 great designs were I probably wouldn't have been able to come up with one! ;) Good luck on winning the dresser!!

  19. The first one is my favorite. Best of luck in winning it so you can make it permanent!

  20. This is my first visit here, and don't know your likes and dislikes, however all three have some great ideas...I would like to suggest that you take elements form ALL 3 and blend them...You could actually hang the mirror, a print and one of the white from the last....you could stack books under some of the items in the 1st. The lamp would look great with some of the items from 1st....wish I was there so I could play with this! Good Luck!

  21. I like #3 but #1 is special because it incorporates things from your family. Which one makes you smile?

  22. I vote you use all of them due to season or mood! I am a big changers upper! Just like in retail settings they move products alot to keep the look fresh and unexpected and home can be the same, so many options. A tip I also use is I place item(s) and then walk by them for several days and see if I like it enough to leave it or if it needs something added or something else all together - Enjoy it is a beautiful peice to build around! So many options.
