When in Doubt, Paint it White

The temperatures in Maryland took a nose-dive yesterday... yippee!  I finally feel like decorating for fall.  I'll be writing a few short posts in the coming weeks about how we're transitioning the house to fall decor over here.

For one, I put this out

which replaced this
Bye bye birdie!  He was a dollar store find that I painted white.  Why is it that you can take such a ridiculous tchotchke, paint it white, put it under glass and it all of a sudden looks OK?  That's the magic of a cloche I guess (it's really just an old cheese dome from Goodwill).

The pumpkin started out looking like this

I "primed" it in gray and then dry brushed some white on top haphazardly and ended up with this

The thing is a hot mess if you look at it closely, but you can't even tell!  I love it, especially in the grand scheme of things

    Yes white, everything looks better white! I undertook a white project on a much bigger scale turning my dungeon basement into a white delight.

    I bought the same pumpkin at the Dollar Store but I sprayed mine with chalkboard paint. I need to write my post on it! Oh and I got some other small ones that I sprayed gold too. Love the dollar store.

    Very nice. I've also been eying those pumpkins at the dollar store and plan to paint some white myself! I think the simple decorations are the best :-)

    I am a firm believer in the when it doubt paint it white philosophy! That's why my 4 connected rooms are going to be a shade of white 8) ....And I am loving white pumpkins this fall!

    What an awesome cloche! Love the pumpkin. That is so true that you can spray paint something white, stick it under a cloche or in a hurricane and it looks expensive! Love your blog - I'm a new follower :)

    Did the same thing with a Dollar Tree pumpkin and added a monogram to mine. Funny how you can paint just about anything white and it look great! lol Love it under the cloche, thanks for sharing it with us at Inspiration Friday!

    Marvelous pumpkin and birdie there, I love how you take something so simple and turn it into magic. Waiting for more of your works, great idea to search for these small things in dollar store as well.
