I've wanted a little black purse to use for date nights for a while, but I hate spending the money on something used so infrequently. I buy a new purse about once every 4 years, so I thought I'd try upgrading something I already had!
It used to look like this
I've now slipcovered some bar stools, a chair and a sectional; so why not a purse?
Here's what you need to slipcover your own purse:
Old purse
ruffle fabric
sewing stuff
hot glue
something to make a strap (I used ribbon and chain)
I started by cutting the straps off the old purse (I should have used wire cutters, oops!)
Then I took my ruffle fabric and pinned it inside out on the outside of the purse. I only pinned the sides and bottom and left the top completely open.
*make sure ruffles stay nice and flattened down when you sew them... a few of mine got sewn "flipped upwards"
Take the pinned fabric off the purse and sew it inside-out. Flip it rightside out and put it back on the purse. It should look like this
You'll have all that loose fabric at the top. Hot glue the loose fabric to the inside of the purse
Then you'll have this!
A clutch, I guess?
I wanted a strap. I had some chain cut at Lowe's (about 18") and threaded some black ribbon through it
Then I sewed and glued the chain to the inside lining of the purse (better safe than sorry, right?)
I ended up with this!
I love it now and I can't wait to try it out!
Thanks so much for stopping by.
Blessings,
Jamie

That is adorable! You should sell them...I'd buy one because I would never attempt to make one for myself. I'm like you, I rarely buy a purse...only when the other one breaks.
