I Finally Made a Growth Chart!

I know it's a little big, but I just couldn't help myself with this project.  I've wanted a growth chart for so long and all the little ones out there seemed tacky by comparison.

I found the inspiration here

The Cellar Door Stories' Growth Chart
Beautiful, right?  You would indulge in ginormousized crafting too, yes?  I really love The Cellar Door Stories... it is a wonderful blog with some great ideas!
Here's what you'll need:
big piece of wood (mine is 6' x 11" x 3/4")
black paint
white paint
numbers printed out from your computer (mine were 4" tall)
pencil
sandpaper
paintbrushes
hanging kit

I started out with my really big board

and painted most of it black, especially around the edges
then I put on a layer of gray

and then 2 coats of white.  I later distressed it by sanding it and then dry brushed a little gray on top of the white

I printed my numbers out and traced them onto the board with a pencil.  I then painted the numbers black.
I wanted them to be a little wobbly and old looking

Then I drew the lines on with a Sharpie

They needed to be a little thicker so I went back and darkened the lines

I drilled these into the back

and attached some wire and hung it.

And it's done!

What do you think?  Too big?  The kids are so excited about it.  I'm hoping it's a piece we will take with us and have as a part of our decor for years to come.  Thanks for stopping by!

Blessings,
Jamie

  10. Stopping by from the blog hop at The Mommy Club...

I love this and need one so badly! How do you plan to mark the heights? After spending so much time making a beautiful chart, I would not want to mess it up with a sloppy scrawl. Know what I mean? I just can't figure out the best way to do it.

  11. Jamie-

Love it! I'll be featuring you next week. I need to do one for the kids as well. Mine's painted on the wall...which wasn't such a smart move in retrospect...

  21. Awesome idea! Unfortunately, we started our growth chart on a steel door leading to the garage..It would be a little bulking and crazy to move if we ever moved, but I would take it in a heart beat...nothing beats memories.
