Here is the before
I had painted some old canvases and hung them above the bed just to have something there. I got really tired of hitting my head on the bottoms of them every time I sat up reading in bed.
I didn't want to spend money on a frame so I painted one right on the wall. This solution worked for a while but I figured it was time for a big-girl headboard.
My friend Andi from Jane of All Crafts took me thrifting a while back. She introduced me to the most awesomely awesome store for furniture finds! My first time there, we found this
It was originally $35, marked down to $25, and we talked them down to $18. Andi says it looks like it's mid-century modern. I don't know what that means. I call it mid-century awesome. Do I use the word awesome enough?
I tried this paint/primer for the first time and I have to say, I'm pretty happy with it.
The coverage isn't spectacular, but I liked the fact I didn't have to buy a separate primer. And it was cheap. Have I mentioned before that I'm cheap?

Behold, the "weeny roller"! I love painting walls and loathe painting furniture so I'll use whatever I can to speed up the process. It took about 3 coats.
We anchored the headboard right to the wall with screws since I wanted it higher on the wall than the bed frame would allow. Mattresses didn't used to be as tall as they are now.
I really don't know how or why my husband puts up with me. When we first hung this thing, it was this height
Perfect, right? Not when you put the pillows on the bed!
Too much of the gorgeous detailing was covered up for my liking.
So we raised it up higher
That looked just crazy.

I promised him this would be the last time we moved it. I don't know if he believed me, but he did it anyway. I love that man!
Ahhhhh... just right
the wall color is Benjamin Moore Ashley Gray
Did you need to see that many angles? Probably not. But I'm a little excited about this thing. Do you see how the pattern on the headboard coordinates with the lamps?!?!
Let me know what you think in the comments. Do you have a vote for a favorite height? (not that I'll be able to talk the hubs into moving it again). Thanks for stopping by!
Blessings,
Cool! Love the new look Jamie!

ReplyDeleteI am searching now for a new headboard to give some love to...I'm so in love with yours! Great find!
ReplyDeleteCan't beat $18 for a "new" headboard. That's awesome!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Especially in your glossy white. Mid century modern stuff is the "modern" clean-lined pieces from the 1950's and 60's usually. Think boomerang tabletops, angles, curves and straight lines on one piece of furniture. Your bed is a great example! Love it.

ReplyDeleteI am smiling that you painted a Broyhill Brasilai white. Have you taken any flack for that? Honestly it looks awesome. I do frequent many MCM blogs and they would go nuts. But it turned out perfect and is a very different take. Good job.
ReplyDeleteYou actually make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be actually something that I think
ReplyDeleteI would never understand. It seems too complex and extremely broad for me.
I'm looking forward for your next post, I'll try to get the hang
of it!
